Twin Grove and the Stage Stop

First up is the Stage Stop in Twin Grove. Twin Grove is in Green County, southeast of Monroe at the intersection of Twin Grove Road and County Highway K. Research indicates that Twin Grove is a designated neighborhood within the town of Jefferson which isn't a town so much as a way of talking about the inhabitants of the townnship outside the city of Juda. Twin Grove definitely fits the requirement of out-of-the-way. But, out-of-the-way doesn't mean charmless. As you can see from the photo below, the neighborhood is not lacking in rustic charm.

Twin Grove

Welcome to the Stage Stop. The Stage Stop has very old and deep roots. Erected in the mid 1800s it served as a stage coach stop. Although the stage coach doesn't make a stop here anymore and the prospects of a room and bath are unlikely, it still serves up food and beverages to the weary traveler.

People still gather here to catch up on news and events, to discuss farm life, the latest gossip, to laugh, to tell stories, eat a meal, have a drink, be together.

As you can see, the bar has the same rustic charm as the neighborhood itself. The people you will meet are friendly and welcoming.

Stage Stop Bar

Perhaps the best reason to make a trip to Twin Grove, besides the bar, is to just enjoy the scenery. The rolling hills of Green County defy description, they have to be felt. Fresh springs collect in streams that flow between the hillsides. The rising sun's rays paint the hills and valleys with the warmest of colors. Take a road you've never been on. I found one called Shanghai, who knew?

Lastly, if you like music, you really need to check out the juke box at the Stage Stop. Take a look at the beauty below. Twelve plays for a dollar, bet you find something you like.
